Starlab is Texas A&M University’s research and production facility for motion capture, virtual production, visualization, and immersive-media work. Located at the RELLIS campus, Starlab brings together faculty, students, industry, and government collaborators to create work using performance capture, real-time 3D, and cinematic production.

Motion Capture and Virtual Production at Texas A&M

Starlab provides the space, technology, and expertise to support performance capture, real-time visualization, virtual production, and collaborative research.

What Starlab Does

Starlab helps researchers, students, and collaborators transform real-world performance, places, and systems into usable digital experiences for research, teaching, simulation, and creative work.

Capabilities

  • Performance capture and movement analysis
  • 3D digitization, LiDAR, and photogrammetry
  • Virtual production and real-time visualization
  • Research, teaching, and creative collaboration

Work With Starlab

Starlab supports faculty, students, industry, and government collaborators from early exploration through capture, reconstruction, visualization, and delivery.

The Facility

At the center of Starlab is a 1,600-square-foot performance-capture stage with a 44-camera Vicon system, supported by modular OptiTrack systems, XR hardware, and 3D-scanning tools.

It is a working lab, not just a showcase: a place where raw capture becomes useful material for research, training, simulation, and storytelling.

RESEARCH & CREATIVE WORK

From environmental digitization and human-motion datasets to student animation and immersive visualization, Starlab helps teams move from a physical subject to a digital one with purpose.
